5’s make it 6 wins in a row with 6 run with over Staines & Laleham
A ridiculously high scoring game on a dubious pitch came down to the last over with Weybridge coming out winners by just 6 runs.
Noone arriving at a windswept, leaf strewn Coronation rec would have thought we were about to have a 416 run game when inspecting the exposed unrolled wicket with an outfield of dandelions van Gough would have been inspired by.
Winning the toss and controversially electing to bat Hewson & Hanafin made a solid start before Liam got bowled by the best ball of the day for only 6. Bellwood put on another 17 before getting a tough LBW decision (though to his credit he walked) Hewson battled on to 49 before getting bowled right before drinks. That brought Mike Ferris in to partner George Tricker and the two batted through , George 37 from 83 and Mike a career best of 89 from 65 to post a season high for the 5’s of 211.
With the ground rock hard an bowling into the wind tough economy was the match winner. Ash opening up the bowling with an economic 8 overs accompanies by Mark, Richard Lewis got rewarded for a good spell taking 2 for 17. Charlie Ferris, George Tricker & Jonathan Wilson bowled but the batsmen got on top and suddenly the game looked closer than it should have been. Turning to Andrew Bellwood and Mike Ferris proved the key with wickets falling as Staines & Laleham started to try and hit out and make runs, leading to runouts and catches. At the final over 11 was needed and Mike controlled the line to take a wicket and see out the win.
Great performance from those playing in difficult conditions and a 6th win in a row. Walton now cannot finish above us in the league and we are left to wonder where we could have got to had those early season concessions not happened.
