With a very disappointing set of results over the weekend, the season will close with no silverware for Weybridge CC in any of the senior teams. The high spot was the 4th XI ending their poor run of form with an 18 run win over Ashford. 78 from David De Bruin set up a competitive total of 177 and wickets from Gihan Mallawaarachchui (3) and Andy Evans (4) got the 4s back to winning ways! Captain Andy Evans was reflective and circumspect after his victory.
The 1st XI’s winning run ended against a very impressive Reigate Priory, despite a magnificent hundred from SJ Erwee. To add insult to injury, Sunbury also lost, which was part 2 of the dream! After a very good start, the 1s were unable to dominate the middle overs and 254 on a good wicket was under par. Reigate seemed to canter to their victory and never looked like losing. The 1s drop down to 3rd but can, mathematically, finish in all 4 of the top positions!!

The 2s had a mountain to climb when they travelled to Premiership winners, Reigate Priory, and they didn’t really get beyond the foothills! Chasing 280, they fell 828 runs short. Tim Cross notched another 50 and Barry Hooper took 3 wickets.
The 3s lost to Spencer by 125 runs but had a youthful team with hopes for the future. Toby Ashley-Collins and Adam Stacey led with runs and Anthony De Silva took another 4 wickets.
Availability has been quite poor this year and every week the captains have to compromise, beg, borrow and steal to get teams out. This has made it very difficult to get settled sides and make a concerted effort to win league titles. Even with these problems, our 3 Premier sides have all finished in the top 5, so how much better could it have been!
On Sunday, Dan Martin’s Sunday XI lost in the all day game against Paddington to end what has not been the best weekend in Weybridge’s playing history!
