Its cold outside but at the cricket club we are busy planning for the summer, keen to build on the success of last year. I wanted to send out a quick note to update you on what’s happening.

We have a new chairman of the club (Steve Gray), I have been elected as the new chair of the colts section and we are in process of forming new exec committee. This gives us all a chance for a fresh start and the opportunity to build the cricket club that Weybridge and our idyllic location deserves. To do that we need some help.

Plans for 2015

We are aiming to become the premier location to learn, play and watch Cricket. We have a new structure for Sunday mornings to increase capacity and are planning a girls squad to build on the success of last season. We have professional coaches booked to run each session, along with our volunteer helpers and to make everyone’s life easier, we are launching on line membership & payment in February and putting a new range into the online kit store. During the season we are planning some great events on the green including a parents match, Cricket Olympics and a colts festival of Cricket.

But there is more – we’d like to improve catering on Sunday mornings and lunchtimes (including a sweet shop) ensuring that our members want to spend time at the club and on the cricket green socially. Our pavilion is a great facility for our members – the last Thursday of each month will be a social curry night at the club and we are looking at upgrading the screens to allow our members to watch top level sporting events like the Ashes, Wimbledon and the Rugby World Cup at the club. We are also trying to host more events & parties at the club – let us know if you want to hold any occasion and we’ll do our best to help.

Great plans – but there are challenges

Put simply, we need help. Like all sports clubs we are under financial pressure. We have a pavilion that needs maintenance and face rising costs from all areas including grounds keeping, insurance, utilities and the rent we pay Elmbridge council.

What we need

With over 130 children on the green each Sunday morning (plus parents & siblings) we need help. With only a few of us on the Colts committee we need managers/ assistant managers for several sections (U8 & U10 especially) and a team of volunteers to help with Sunday registration and running the sweet shop. If you can help, please come forward. We can’t make it all happen on our own. I have entered teams into leagues & cups so there will be plenty of matches for everyone this season.

What is in store –

The Colts Sunday coaching season will run from Sunday 19th April to Sunday 26th July (15 weeks) in the following format –

9:00 – 10:30 training for U6, U7, U8 & Girls squads (that’s right we are planning a dedicated girls section)

10:45 – 12:15 training for U9 & U10 squads

(We work to the ECB Age groups which are based on the age of the player at midnight on 31st August in the year preceding the current season. So an Under 7 player would be in school Year 2 with a birthday between 01/09/2007-31/08/2008)

Memberships will be capped to ensure a quality experience for everyone. Membership costs will be confirmed in February, currently our aim is to keep below £10 per week. As a colts member we offer professional coaching for children, social membership of the club for parents & discounted drinks at the bar.

So that gives you an interim update – what’s next?

Keep an eye out for the launch of registrations for 2015 and please take a moment to consider helping us out.

Many thanks for your support of the Cricket club and the Colts.
